The computer reconstructed model of Enichiji

The computer reconstruction was made by evaluation and use of evidence available at the time. To see a discussion of the decisions and the process --along with some updated archaeological information-- go to Making Decisions for Enchiji Walkthrough

Below, we show some views of the reconstruction, and an animated view of the Enichiji computer model, in quicktime. Individual views can be seen by stopping or stepping through the animation. A user-controlled "virtual reality" tour is under development, to allow ad lib exploration of interior and exterior details and some of the construction, the inclusion of religious and structural artifacts, and to provide a basis for scholarly discussion and interaction.

For further historical discussion, see Enichiji in the Heian Period

Enichiji Temple Tour

Select the temple icon to begin the animated tour. Download time for the streamed 7 MB animation file will vary depending on your configuration. During the tour through the temple model, you may listen to some music composed by Takayuki Yanagiya, when he was a student in the Computer Music SCCP (extra-curricular project) at the University of Aizu. To hear the full composition, click here.

Mr. Yanagiya holds all rights to the music, which is based on gagaku, the ancient Japanese court music that was sometimes played at Buddhist temples in the Heian period.
