INSTRUCTIONS FOR RESUME AND COVER LETTER


Resume -
(70 points.)

Create a resume. You may include all work you will complete through graduation and skills you will obtain by that future date. Address specific skills you possess within your discipline. Effectively address the employer's need for an employee with computer and communication skills to include skills you will learn in this class.

Resume must be one to two pages in length.

Use 1.5" top, and 1" side and bottom margins.

Create a header that contains your full name in a 14pt font, bold, and centered. Also include your contact information in a 12pt font, centererd.

Create a footer that contains your email address in a 10 point font, centered. Also in the footer include the following text with inserted page numbering, centered, below your email address -- Page # of #s -- where # is the current page number and #s is the total number of pages.

Spelling, punctuation, and grammar count.


Save as a MS Word document with the name being "<your initials - first, middle & last>_resume", all lower case (e.g., mjm_resume.doc -- as shown).

Email, as an attachment, the assignment to the instructor (mmartin@cs.csustan.edu). CC yourself or save a copy of your sent mail. Email "Subject" must be "ClassID Resume" (e.g., CS4000-1Resume -- as shown but using your ClassID).

Cover Letter

Create a cover letter to go with the resume.

Include the following:

Create a person and company to contact within your area of interest.

Address an opening at this company that you believe you are qualified to fill.

Tell how you learned of the opening.

Provide the reasons the employer should grant you an interview.

Explain briefly why you should be hired for this position.

Suggest a follow-up time to contact the company.

Include contact information.
