- CFA SPECIAL ALERT : SB 1212 DUE PROCESS RIGHTS CALL TO ACTION
- PHASE I - LETTERS-TO-THE EDITOR A SUCCESS
- PREPARING FOR PHASE II - ASSEMBLY DEMOCRATS
First, thank you for all of your letters-to-the-editor in support of
CFA-sponsored SB 1212 (Romero). If signed into law, SB 1212 will prevent
the CSU administration from trying to undermine due process protections,
thus ensuring that CSU faculty will retain and strengthen the right to a
hearing - and arbitration - if they feel unjustly treated in their working
conditions or employment.
By all indications, Phase I of the SB 1212 campaign has been a strong
success. Many of you have written letters-to-the-editor of your local
newspapers urging the public - and legislators in their district offices -
to support this important CFA bill. From Humboldt to San Diego, CFA letters
have been published that dramatize the importance of this CFA-sponsored
Beginning next week, CFA will be implementing Phase II of its multi-pronged
approach to gain legislative support and Governor Gray Davis' approval of
SB 1212 (Romero). Phase II of this important effort will involve CSU
faculty sending letters to Assembly Democrats who will be voting on SB 1212
shortly after the legislature returns from its summer recess on August
20th. Next week, CFA will provide you with a sample letter to assist you.
The final Phase III efforts will focus on encouraging Governor Davis to
sign SB 1212 into law.
It is imperative that our letter-writing efforts continue. In fact, our
efforts need to multiply as our faculty begins returning to their campuses.
The CSU administration - with the help of campus Presidents and the hiring
of additional lobbyists - is going all out to defeat SB 1212, and we will
need your continued involvement and commitment if CFA is to be successful
in its efforts.
As always, CFA/GRO staff are available to you if you have any questions, or
need further assistance: email@example.com, 916 441-4848.
