(Naturally, there are many other rules that you should think up and follow on your own.) Do not change the root password Do not change the name of the computer Do not change entries in the password file unless you completely understand what you are doing and are sure it is OK. Do not tell anyone who is not in the class the root password Corollary I: do not utter the root password when there is even a remote chance of being overheard Corollary II: do not leave the written password where unauthorized people can see it.
