COMPUTER GLOSSARY PROJECT ASSIGNMENT Use a word processor to create a small glossary of computer terms. Your glossary must define at least 25 computing terms. You must include the following terms among the 25 you choose: Active Window Applications Menu Dialog Box Finder Folder Header Help Menu HTML Internet URL Window World Wide Web The rest must be terms from chapters 1, 6, 8, and 9 of our text book, "Computers". You may look up terms in any reference you choose, including the glossary in the back of Computer. However, your glossary must define the terms in your own words. Hints: Do a quick scan of chapter 7 to get definitions of the Internet, URL's, HTML, and the World Wide Web. The rest of the terms above have to do with the graphical user interface of a Macintosh system and you will be able to pick up those terms from class discussion and/or your computer lab work. THE FORMAT OF YOUR GLOSSARY Adhering to the formatting rules below is very important. One reason is that it demonstrates your mastery of the use of your word processor. A. Use double spacing, on standard 8-1/2 by 11 inch paper. B. For the main part of the document, use a font size from 10 to 12 point. C. In a header that appears on all the pages, enter your name, class identifier (CS 4000) and the due date. I will give a demonstration about how to create headers and footers. Space the content of your header so that there is at least 3/8" of vertical space between the last line of header text and the first line of text in the main document. Make the font *style* (e.g. courier or helvetica) of the header the same as that of the main text. Make the font *size* of the header two sizes smaller than the size of the main text. D. Place a centered title at the top of the first page but below your header. There must be at least 3/8" of vertical space between the header and the title, and between the title and the rest of the main document. Make the font *style* (e.g. courier or helvetica) of the title the same as that of the rest of the main text. Make the font *size* of the title two sizes larger than the size of the rest of the main text. E. Justify the left margin (only). F. Set left and right margins to 1-1/4 inches. Set top and bottom margins to 1-1/2 inches. G. Use such things as indentation, tabs, hanging paragraphs, underlining, boldface, and so forth appropriately in order to make the glossary optimally attractive and usable. H. Number all the pages. Put the page numbers in a footer that appears on all pages. Space the content of your footer so that there is at least 3/8" between it and the main document. Make the font style and font size of the footer the same as that of the header. Add a word or two to the footer in a manner that will serve to identify the document for the reader. (You can look at the glossary in your textbook to see an example.) I. The entries of the Glossary must be in *alphabetical order*. THE DUE DATE FOR THIS PROJECT Check the class schedule for the due date. Late projects will not be accepted. HOW TO TURN IN THIS PROJECT Turn in the project in class on the due date or on any class day before the due date. Put your paper on the desk before class starts. ================================================== ==================================================
