 WORK SCHEDULE FOR CS 1500 -- Spring 2000
I will make additions and changes to this schedule as the
semester progresses.  Keep checking the class web space to see
the latest version of this schedule
WEEK #1: Feb 16 - Feb 18
-  WEEK #1 is a two-class week.  Due to the first day
	of school falling on a Wednesday.  CS 1500 meets in
	P-101 on Wednesday and in P-288 on Friday for the
	"Hello World" lab.
 -  Reading Assignment: read the class handouts.  Get
	started reading chapter 1 of Shiflet, and chapters 1-3,
	5 of Andersen.
 
WEEK #2: Feb 21 - Feb 25
-  WEEK #2 is a three-class week.
	Monday, Feb 21, is not a holiday.  CS 1500 will
	meet in P-101 on Monday and Wednesday and will meet in
	P-288 on Friday.
 -  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: Finish chapter one
	and start on sections 2.1 through 2.4; In Andersen:
	finish up with chapters 1-3 and 5.
 -  MONDAY:
     
     - We discuss parts of the Hello-World program.
     
 - You can get started working on Solo Program #1 any
         time now -- the sooner the better. 
     
 
 -  WEDNESDAY: We prepare for the lab.
 -  FRIDAY: In the lab we experiment with modifying a
	program and printing from the Sun Ultra's.
 
WEEK #3: Feb 28 - Mar 3
-  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: sections 2.1-2.4
	and 2.6; In Andersen: chapters 6-7.
 -  MONDAY: You may turn in printouts from Lab01
		    today.  Put the papers on my desk at the
		    beginning of class.  You may also turn them
		    in on Wednesday.
 -  WEDNESDAY: Last day to turn in printouts from lab
	#1.  You must put the papers on my desk at the
	beginning of class.
 -  FRIDAY: Lab #2: assignments and interactive
	I/O.
 
WEEK #4: Mar 6 - Mar 10
-  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: chapter three; In
        Andersen: chapters 8-9
 -  MONDAY: Solo Program #1 is due
	today.  Lecture covers functions, parameters, local and
	global variables.
 -  WEDNESDAY: More on functions, parameters, local and
	global variables.  We prepare for the lab.
 -  FRIDAY: We do lab #3 (functions)
 
WEEK #5: Mar 13 - Mar 17
-  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: first half of
	chapter four; In Andersen: chapters 10-11.
 -  MONDAY: Lecture
 -  WEDNESDAY: Lecture
 -  QUIZ #1: Friday, Mar 17 on: Shiflet chapters 1-3;
		    Andersen chapters 1-3 and 5-9.  (No lab
		    this Friday.)
 
WEEK #6: Mar 20 - Mar 24
-  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: second half of
	chapter four; In Andersen: read chapter 12 and
	whichever of chapters 13-16 apply to your needs and
	interests.  Note: JOVE is a form of EMACS.

-  WARRIOR DAY: Friday, May 12 is Warrior Day.
There will be a CS 1500 class that day.
      (However, there will be no afternoon classes on
      Warrior Day.)
 -  Reading Assignment: In Shiflet: 9.1-9.3 plus
	10.1-10.2; Please get through the material in Shiflet
	as soon as possible.  In Andersen: read whatever you
	need or are interested in.
 -  MONDAY: Discussion of File Processing and Arrays
 -  WEDNESDAY: Go to Lab and work on Solo's 5 and 6.
 -  FRIDAY: 
     
     -  More discussion of Files and Arrays.

 -  (Solo #5 is due this day instead of Monday to help
	  you make the transition coming back from spring break.

	Andersen: read whatever you need or are interested
	in.
 -  MONDAY: Quiz #3, Monday May 22, on: Shiflet sections
	6.1-6.4, 7.1-7.2 (loops); 8.1 (character I/O); 9.2-9.3
        (streams, files, call by reference); and 10.1-10.2
	(arrays and functions with array parameters) 
 
FINAL EXAM: Our (optional) final exam is scheduled for
the first day of finals week:  Wednesday, May 24, 2000 from
11:15 to 1:15.  The exam will be held in the regular classroom:
P-102.  In order to help decide whether you want to take the
exam, you can check the class website to see how you did on
Quiz #3 and how good your quiz average is.
