Title: Real and Complex
Dimensions of Fractal Strings
Abstract:
Fractals and multifractals arise in nature in the form of
turbulence, cell growth, strange attractors and many other phenomena.
Fractal strings are very simple mathematical objects whose structure
leads to a variety of interesting questions and results in the study of
the geometry and spectra of fractals. In many cases, fractal strings
come with an entire family of complex-valued dimensions which
illuminate their geometric and spectral structure and leads the way
toward a similar analysis of the more richly structured
multifractals.
