From: whatisname@... (Gyre) Newsgroups: alt.books.m-lackey Subject: Silence Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 10:14:02 -0800 The sun rises, golden orb wrapped in burning cloud and cool silence. Slipping from the grasp of darkness, from the tangled weave of land and tree. Silently. Standing, head lowered and face in shadow, Gyre rests in a clearing. Within sight of ABML, within sight of those who hold themselves, huddle in each other's embraces and suddenly too thin blankets. His cloak, living leaves that are frighteningly still, is the frost touched dark green of winter's season. Lifting his head he shows a dry face, a stone face to the sky. A hand, softly, reaches toward the streaming light above the World. Gathering a glimmering handful of gold on the tips of his fingers. His cloak lifts, spins and tumbles in a violent shudder. And /changes/. From shoulders to ground the leaves straighten and grow young. Slowly filling and becoming lush. Tinting in the most brilliant of Autumns colours. Copper. The Forest roars with the sound of a thousand thousand trees unfurling long lost leaves. Whispers as they twist in a sibulant sigh of wind, mournful voice tangling in the long limbs. The Forest gathers the sun into itself as the leaves all become copper-gold. Glittering, gleaming like beaten metal, like tear slicked copper, the Forest whispers with a thousand voice. Ticks with the sound of a million tiny clockwork feet. Rolls with the distant sounds of laughter belling across the face of time. And slowly, ever so slowly, the sounds and motion still. And a leaf falls. -Gyre Hart In beauty of soul he wrote, lived, and was therefore loved. May he find the gold of his copper as easily As we found joy in him. In memory, and in sadness of passing Farewell, Copper Squirrel. ********************************************* ********************************************* From: "Nightowl" Newsgroups: alt.books.m-lackey Subject: Re: Silence Date: Mon, 19 Nov 2001 18:28:57 GMT Thank you Grye. The most touching words, I feel, are these last five lines. Thank you, Gyre, for your tribute to our friend.
