Sale, Elisabeth or Isabelle
Elisabeth Sale was born about 1651 in the parish of Saint-Medard in the faubourg Saint-Marceau section of Paris, the daughter of Pierre Sale and Francoise Lupia. Her father was a merchant-ironmonger to the palace. Elisabeth came to Canada in 1670 at about age 19, bringing with her goods worth an estimated 200 livres for her dowry.
On 09 September 1670, notary Ameau drew up a marriage contract at Trois-Rivieres between Elisabeth and Jaques Marcot, who signed it. Elisabeth merely made a large "E" on the contract, which stated that she was to receive the KIng's Gift of 100 livres. The couple was probably married in the Jesuit chapel at Cap-de-la-Madeleine, whose registers have disappeared. Jacques was baptized 07 October 1644 in the parish of Saint-Leger in Fecamp (arrondissement of Le Havre, archdiocese of Rouen), Normandy, the fourth of five children of master butcher Charles Marcot (Nicolas Marcot and (Nicolas Marcot and (unknown) and Jacqueline Baucher. His godparents are Jacques Le Prestre and Jane Savoye. Jacques' brother Nicolas married Fille du Roi Martine Tavrey. Their father was baptized 25 February 1599 in Saint-Leger.
Elisabeth and Jacques first lived at Trois-Rivieres, where sons Denis (19 June 1671) and Jacques "28 January 1673 were baptized. The family then settled at Neuville/Les Ecureuils. Louis was baptized 27 December 1674 at Quebec City, followed by Jean-Baptiste (12 October 1676), Genevieve-Elisabeth (27 June 1678) and Marie-Anne (19 February 1680). Sadly, Louis died before and Denis died after the 1681 census, which finds the family at Neuville. Marguerite-Elisabeth was baptized 04 March 1683 at Neuville, followed by Marie-Ursule (07 December 1684), Marie-Madeleine (15 August 1686) and Jean (married Marie-Anne Morisset, 1717). Guillaume was baptized 19 December 1690 and buried 07 January 1691 at Neuville. Jean-Francois was baptized 21 December 1691 at Neuville, followed by Francois (born about 1692, Michel (married Francoise Gignac, 1720) and Henri (married Charlotte Hardy, 1724). About 1697, the family moved to Cap-Sante, on lot number 105 of the modern land division.
Jacques Marcot died at Neuville between 06 April 1717 and 12 November 1720. Elisabeth Sale died 31 December 1722 and was buried the same day at Cap-Sante.
