Assignments for the semester are listed below. Please check back each week to see if a due date has changed, to see if additional information has been added to clarify the assignment, or to see if the requirements of the assignment have changed in any way. Changes will be announced in class as well.

WEEK ONE (Feb. 13) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Obtain an email account. Become familiar with its operation (we will cover this in class if you are new to using email.) 2.) Subscribe to the class email alias for your section only before end of class week two: Read this entire section before proceeding. Click here to subscribe to the class listserv: http://majord.csustan.edu Enter your email address. (Note: if you have more than one email account, use the address you will be checking to receive all class correspondence.) Check "ALL" for "Browse which lists?" and then click "GO". Check the "Sub?" box beside "cs4000-3" and then click "Apply" at the top or bottom of the page. The final screen will list any errors. If none are listed you may leave this site. You will receive two email messages from Majordomo@pollux.csustan.edu to one, say that you succeeded in subscribing, and two, to welcome you to the listserv. Read the welcome message and save it for later reference. If you do not receive these messages, you will need to go to the web site and retry your subscription. 3.) Lec/Lab - reviewing online class materials: the syllabus, this assignment page, the online class database and using Blackboard. 4.) Take the Challenge Exam on Blackboard while in class. 5.) Read Chapter 0 in the text and complete Chapter 0 quiz. There will be one chapter quiz each week of class. Quizzes will be taken using the online BlackBoard program. Each quiz will be available for an entire week and may be taken from home or when on campus. Each quiz must be completed by the end of class the following week. There will be time at the end of each class to take a quiz. See the guidelines below for further information. Quiz taking guidelines are here. 6.) Important Note: Your classID is CS4000-3. This is not to be confused with your userID which logs you into the campus computers or the online points database.

WEEK TWO (Feb. 20) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Create and save a MS Word document as a "Word 97-2003" file type with the name "<your initials - first, middle & last> _attachment", all lower case (e.g., dlb_attachment.doc) and send as an attachment in email to the instructor -- dbratten@charter.net -- with the email Subject: "CS4000-3 Attachment" (no quotes). The content of the Word document will be the text found here. You may copy and paste the text from the webpage into your Word doc.. NOTE: All email sent to me this term must begin with your ClassID -- CS4000-3 -- in the Subject followed by any additional subject information. 2.) PowerPoint One - Due by 3pm on day of class Week Four. Instructions are here. 3.) Discussion Paper - Due by end of class Week Seven. Instructions are here. Read Chapter 1 in the text and complete Chapter 1 quiz.

WEEK THREE (Feb. 27) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Oral Presentation One - due Week Four. Instructions are here. 2.) Lab - using MS PowerPoint. 3.) Read Chapter 2 in the text and complete Chapter 2 quiz.

WEEK FOUR (Mar. 5) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) PowerPoint One due by 3pm today. 2.) Oral Presentation One with slide show to be given today. 3.) Resume and Cover Letter - Due by end of class Week Six. Instructions are here. 4.) Lab - MS Word. 5.) Read Chapter 3 in the text and complete Chapter 3 quiz.

WEEK FIVE (Mar. 12) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Lab - MS Word - formatting your Discussion Paper. 2.) Read Chapters 4 in the text and complete Chapter 4 quiz.

WEEK SIX (Mar. 19) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Resume and Cover Letter due by end of class. 2.) Go to: Student Records & Transcripts and login to the site. On the page that appears, enter your User ID (which is your CSU ID number) and your PIN (which is your birthdate.) After doing so you will reach the page where you will select: Enrollment Services. On the next page select: Student Records. Now select: Academic Transcript. Select: Transcript - Web Display and click Submit. This information will be used for the Spreadsheet assignment. If you wish to save a copy of your report after your transcript is displayed pull down under File on the Menu bar to Save as. Save the web page as both a text file and/or as a source file on your disk. Click on Exit at the top of the window to logoff. 3.) Spreadsheet - due by end of class Week Eight. Create a spreadsheet to represent your Evaluation of Transfer Credit report. Instructions and an HTML example are here. 4.) Lab - MS Word & MS Excel - formatting and calculations. 5.) Read Chapter 5 in the text and complete Chapter 5 quiz.

Spring Break -- Mar. 26th -- Spring Break

WEEK SEVEN (Apr. 2) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Discussion Paper due by end of class. 2.) Web Page assignment - due by end of class Week Eleven. This assignment is to be transferred to the CS Web Server prior to the due date and time. You may submit the completed assignment at any time prior to the due date. Instructions are here. 3.) Lab - MS Word & Excel. 4.) Read Chapter 6 in the text and complete Chapter 6 quiz.

WEEK EIGHT (Apr. 9) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Spreadsheet due by end of class. 2.) PowerPoint Two -due by end of class Week Ten. Instructions are here 3.) Lab - MS Excel & Nvu to create web pages. 4.) Read Chapter 7 in the text and complete Chapter 7 quiz.

WEEK NINE (Apr. 16) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Lab - using MS PowerPoint, HTML, and images & working on web pages. 2.) Read Chapter 8 in the text and complete Chapter 8 quiz.

WEEK TEN (Apr. 23) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) PowerPoint Two due by end of class. 2.) Lab - using MS PowerPoint, Nvu Editor and HTML. 3.) Read Chapter 9 in the text and complete Chapter 9 quiz.

WEEK ELEVEN (Apr. 30) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Web Pages due by end of class. 2.) Oral Presentation Two - due Week Twelve. Instructions are here. NOTE: If you are unable to do your presentation on the date assigned it is your responsibility to notify the instructor by email before 12 noon on Week Twelve. You will be rescheduled to the alternate date. 3.) Lab - web pages and HTML. 4.) Read Chapter 10 in the text and complete Chapter 10 quiz.

WEEK TWELVE (May 7) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Final day to resubmit assignments for improved score (see Syllabus.) 2.) Oral Presentations of Discussion Papers -- May 7th & May 14th -- three - five minutes each using PowerPoint. NOTE: If for any reason you are unable to do your presentation on the date assigned it is your responsibility to notify the instructor by email before 12 noon on the day of class. You will be rescheduled to the last date. 3.) Critique Your Peer's Performance assignment - You may take notes on each presenter to allow your later entry of points and comments into a web-based database. Score each of the questions from 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest. You must enter your critiques for each presenter prior to the start of the next class session. To do so, go to the "Online Points Database" page linked off the front page of this class web site (this is the same page you use to check your points.) Critiques may be entered only for presentations you are in class to hear. Additional entries may result in your failure of this assignment. Points will be prorated on the number of critiques you complete but failure to critique at least 60% of your peers (e.g., 24 presenters x .60 = 15 required) will result in no points being awarded.

WEEK THIRTEEN (May 14) ASSIGNMENTS:

1.) Oral Presentations of Discussion Papers continue -- three - five minutes each. 2.) Peer Critiques continue. Critiques may be entered only for presentations you are in class to hear. Additional entries may result in your failure of this assignment. Points will be prorated on the number of critiques you complete but failure to critique at least 60% of your peers (e.g., 24 presenters x .60 = 15 required) will result in no points being awarded.

Final Exam Day

Final Exam Day - May 28th - 6:00-9:00pm - Room P-107. This day is to be used to finish oral presentations, if necessary.
